We do accept new dancers through out the year, but you are not guaranteed a spot as our space is limited. If we don't have room for you, you will be put on a waiting list and will be contacted as space becomes available. It is a first-come-first-serve basis. When is registration?
Registration for returining dancers takes place in May. Registration for new dancers takes place in early June and dancers are always accepted through out the year but are not always guaranteed a spot, as space is limited. New dancers are always welcome!
When Does the Dancing Begin?
Dance is open for all ages and abilities. Generally dance begins at age 4-5 for girls and age 5 for boys. Class times vary with age and ability, ranging form 45 minutes to 2 hours. The dance season will begin in September and run until June.
What's Needed to Get Started?
All dancers are required to have a pair of shorts, a tee-shirt ( Knock attire will be sold for dancers), a water bottle, and dance shoes. Soft and hard shoes, new and used are available for sale through the studio and vendors at feis'.
How Quickly Will Dancers Advance?
Dancers move from Beginner, Advanced Beginner, Novice, Prizewinner, Prelim, and Open depending on their commitment to dance and ability. Age does not hold a dancer back. We encourage every dancer to advance, but it is all up to how much work dancers put in to dance. If you want to advance, you need to practice.
What is Open Championship?
Open championship is the highest level of Irish dance. Knock open dancers compete at regional, national, and world levels. These dancers have worked very hard to get here and have had many successes.
When is a Dancer Ready for a Feis?
Feis competitions are held through out the year. Dancers determine when they are ready for feis by discussing it with teachers. Siobhan and Angela will tell you when you are ready to go into a feis. These dancers have to be able to know their steps and execute them perfectly.
What is a Dance Drama?
The dance drama is a performance choreographed by Angela Hogan and held by the RINCE parent association in Edmonton. This performance showcases all the dancers hard work throughout the year. It's often a sold out public event at the Winspear Centre in Edmonton featuring Knock dancers, singers, musicians and a narrator who bring together an amazing Irish story.
